Man makes call threatening customers at Renton diner

The following information was compiled from Renton police reports.

A man used a nearby pay phone to call a diner and threaten to kill everyone inside in 10 minutes, Aug. 22.

Employees told police that they saw a man use the phone and walk off in an unknown direction on the 1800 block of the Maple Valley Highway.

Before the threat the man said, “We will play a little game today.”

He’s described as a white male, late 20s to early 30s, 5-foot-8, with a heavy build and a black hooded sweatshirt embroidered with a silver dragon.

Man threatens kids

A man reportedly threatened a 17-year-old boy with his shotgun after telling the boy he thought he was a pimp dealing drugs Aug. 2.

Parents called police a couple weeks later, after the man then made threatening gestures at a dollar store.

After the boy left the store, the man followed him in his Jeep Cherokee.

The parents believe the man was responsible for placing letters in mailboxes all around the neighborhood that said the boy and his friends were responsible for criminal activity in the area.

The friends had seen the man taking pictures of them and their cars while they were at the park.

The parents were concerned that if the man was willing to follow them once, he’d be willing to do it again.

Park vandalized

Fourteen sprinklers were vandalized and broken at Liberty Park near the skatepark, Aug. 8.

There are no suspects.

Stolen license plates

A private towing company discovered someone swapped the plates on a stolen car, Aug. 23.

The VIN number was for the Chevrolet S-10 truck came from a car reported missing in Seattle, and the plates matched a car registered in Bonney Lake.

Church burglarized

A pastor’s office in a local church was ransacked and a laptop and about $500 cash were stolen from the 200 block of Hardie Avenue Northwest.

The thieves entered the building by smashing in a window; they then pried open the pastor’s office door Aug. 20.

Another employee’s laptop was also stolen along with her candy jar Aug. 20.

The building had cameras at the point of entry, but they weren’t hooked up.

Marijuana

A man was cited for possession of marijuana after police found he had a plastic lunch bag full of the drug Aug. 23.

The officer pulled over a black Nissan Maxima on 3100 block of Northeast Sunset Boulevard for having expired car tabs.

When the officer approached the car, he noticed the smell of marijuana, and asked the man if he had any. The man said yes and voluntarily surrendered it.

The officer arrested him, then cited and released him at the scene.

He took the marijuana, which weighed in at 24 grams.

Car prowl

Someone attempted to prowl a minivan by smashing in a window but fled when the alarm went off Aug. 28 on the 16100 block of 139th Place Southeast.

Alarm scares off burglars

A couple’s house alarm scared off burglars, but not before they stole a jewelry box Aug. 23.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the alarm on the 23400 block of 172nd Avenue Southeast, when they discovered the thieves likely broke in through prying open a garage window.

One of the owners suspected the tree workers could be responsible.
