About 40 Lindbergh High School Key Club members joined a nationwide St. Vincent de Paul “Friends of the Poor Walk” on Saturday to benefit needy Renton households.

The walk was at Kennedy High School in Burien.

The first-ever walk was for people of all faiths and community members to walk a least one mile and raise funds to help prevent evictions, hunger, power shut-offs and other crisis needs facing struggling families and individuals.

Renton area walkers’ pledges will help St. Vincent de Paul’s work in Renton.

The walk comes as the society is celebrating its 175 anniversary internationally. The Catholic nonprofit is a nominee for the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize.

Valerie Mai is Key Club president.
