Lee Cummings of Renton honored for years of community service

Lee Cummings of Renton was one of a select number of volunteers recognized by Gov. Chris Gregoire and the Washington Commission for National and Community Services for her outstanding contributions as a volunteer.

Cummings was recognized for her commitment to community service. She has provided more than 400 hours of service as a trainer for the local Community Emergency Response Team program and has served as the team leader for the Renton Emergency Communication Service that specializes in amateur radio operations during a disaster or emergency. She has also served as a volunteer for the King County Office of Emergency Management.

“The city is honored to have Lee Cummings as a part of our team,” says Deborah Needham, Emergency Management director. “Her dedication and compassion are continually demonstrated in her efforts, willingness and outstanding contributions.”

Volunteers identified to receive this award were nominated and then selected through a process conducted by the Citizen Corps program. Cummings’ recognition was formally presented at the 2009 Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards ceremony on April 20 in Olympia.

The Seattle Mariners, the Washington Commission for National and Community Service, 97.3 KIRO FM and 770 KTTH also provided an opportunity to recognize Cummings and other volunteers at their Salute to Volunteers event held on April 21 at Safeco Field.
