Kennydale Lions’ tree sales cancelled

Kennydale Lions club won’t be selling Christmas trees in the Highlands this year after 50 years.

“This is our major fundraiser for the scholarships. It’s thousands of dollars,” said a club director John Brooks.

The owner of the lot used to sell about 400 trees in past years told the club that the lot wasn’t available until it was too late to find another.

“We’re not sure what we’re going to be doing now,” Brooks said. “You have to roll with the punches.”

This year the club gave out about $6,000 in scholarships to Hazen High School students.

The club plans to continue the sales in 2010, when they have enough time to find a lot before the Christmas trees need to be ordered.

The club is asking people to purchase trees from their fellow Fairwood Lions, who sell them at the Cascade Little League Baseball field.
