The city is once again joining forces with Renton Ecumenical Association of Churches (REACH) and Faith Action Network (FAN) to shed light to human trafficking by screening “The Long Night” on Wednesday, June 8.

The 70-minute documentary, filmed and directed by award-winning photojournalist Tim Matsui, focuses on minors from Seattle who are forced and coerced into sex trade. Following the movie, a panel of experts — including a prosecutor, detective, service provider and trafficking survivor — will answer audience questions.

“We really want community participation and interaction on the topic,” said Tina Harris, victim advocate at Renton Police Department.

When the movie first launched, Renton was the first city to show it to law enforcement, prosecution and service providers for training, according to Harris. Soon after, the city partnered with REACH and FAN to make the movie accessible to community members to help educate and spread awareness about the issue.

Admission is $10 for adults and free for youth. Tickets can be purchased at http://thelongnightrenton.brownpapertickets.com. The film screens at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, at Carco Theater, 1717 S.E. Maple Valley Hwy.

There will be a showing at 7:30 p.m. June 21 at Southcenter AMC. The first 50 Renton residents who call Harris will receive a free ticket for that screening.
