Habitat for Humanity truck stolen

The truck contained energy-efficient windows valued at more than $20,000.

A truck containing 45 new energy-efficient windows donated to Habitat For Humanity Seattle-King County was stolen Tuesday night.

The windows are meant for the charity’s new Tukwila store grand opening and have a combined estimated value of the windows and truck is more than $20,000.

The new Tukwila Store is due to open in mid-January, and Habitat SKC staff has been busy soliciting donations and building inventory for the Grand Opening. The stolen truck was used to pick up needed donations for both the soon-to-open Tukwila Store and the Bellevue Store.

“This is a big loss and couldn’t come at a worse time as we are getting ready for our Tukwila Store Grand Opening,” Habitat SKC’s CEO Gail Luxenberg said in a press release. “The windows were a wonderful donation from a generous partner. We’ll have to work hard to replace them and the income they would have brought in.

“Additionally, the loss of the truck will make it difficult to pick up donations that we rely on to stock our stores and make them such a treasure trove for bargain hunters. Our work is supported by so many big-hearted donors and it’s heartbreaking to have something like this happen,” she said.

Habitat Stores are open to the public and sell 100 percent donated new and gently used building materials, appliances and furniture at discount prices. Donations from manufacturers, contractors, retailers and individuals keep reusable items from going to a landfill.

All profits are used to fund Habitat SKC’s work building, renovating and repairing homes for low income families throughout King County.

The truck, a 2000 Isuzu 4×2 68 BBC teal tilt box truck, is clearly identifiable as belonging to Habitat SKC.

Anyone who sees the truck is urged to contact the Tukwila police at 206-241-2121.
