A 57-year-old man was assaulted Aug. 19 at the downtown transit center.

Victim was walking around the transit center when five-to-six teenage boys approached him. One of the suspects asked him for money to which the victim responded he didn’t have any. The suspect punched him in his right jaw, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect searched his pockets and took $6 in cash, and all the males left the area.

Suspect didn’t have a cell phone with him at the time of the assault, so he walked back home.

He had a cut inside his lip on the right side.

Police reviewed footage from the transit center in an attempt to identify suspects but could not find any evidence. They attempted to contact the victim, but his phone was disconnected.

McForgery: A McDonalds employee was working at the drive thru window at the South Grady Way restaurant on Aug. 20 when an Asian male pulled up in a black Lexus sedan and tried to pay for his food, totaling $3.60, with a $100 bill.

The employee said the bill “felt plastic” and upon further inspection, realized it was a counterfeit bill. She informed the man that the bill was a fake. He acted surprised and said he didn’t know it was fake and that he received the bill as a tip from the work. He paid for his meal with a credit card then drove away because he was on his lunch break and unable to wait for the police.

Police were unable to locate the driver or find a license plate number.

The $100 bill had “For Motion Picture Only” printed on the front and backside.

Don’t steal, baby: A 30-year-old woman was caught shoplifting Aug. 20 at the Walmart on Rainier Avenue South. The woman was caught selecting and concealing multiple items of toddler clothing, then passing the registers without attempting to pay for the merchandise and exiting the store.

She was detained by a Loss Prevention associate who recovered the merchandise, valued at $113.41.

She admitted that she entered the store with no intention of paying for the items and she was trying to help her sister who is struggling to take care of her baby.

She was charged with third degree theft.

Shoplift: Four juvenile suspects Aug. 19 entered Bargain Plaza on Sunset Boulevard Northeast and shoplifted multiple items, including jewelry and clothing with an estimated value of $250.

Since neither Bargain Plaza or nearby stores had any surveillance video, police were unable to gather any footage to identify the suspects.

The suspects left in an gold-colored van which was reported as stolen. The van was recovered later in the day.
