The following information was compiled from Renton Police Department incident reports.
Police officers were contacted on Oct. 8 to reports of a suspicious device that was found at a Shell gas station at Northeast Fourth Street.
According to the reporting party, he found a device at the entrance to the car wash. He said he picked it up and thought it may have looked like an explosive, so he set it down, off to the side of the car wash exit.
He described the object as round and about the size of a baseball. It was clear plastic, had a black wire sticking out and appeared to be filled with hard metal shavings.
Port of Seattle Police bomb squad arrived and secured the perimeter and evacuated nearby businesses. After x-raying the device twice and cutting it open, the squad determined the device was safe and non-explosive.
YOU GOT SCAMMED: A man reported he was scammed by someone who claimed to be a King County Sheriff’s Office official on Oct. 9.
According to the police report, the man received a phone call from the suspect who said he, the victim, had warrants out for his arrest for failing to appear to a court date and he owed $1,921. The victim said he was “a little leery” since he hasn’t been arrested for a crime, but he complied because he did not want to get arrested.
The suspect told the man to buy money pack cards and provide him with the numbers on the back. The man bought three cards valuing $500 each, and one card valuing $421. After giving the codes to the suspect, the suspect said two of the cards did not work and he needed to buy two other cards. The victim complied.
The suspect then told the man to go to the King County courthouse and wait outside for a Detective Harrison to show up. The victim said went to the courthouse, waited for 10 minutes, and nobody showed up.
The only information the officers have regarding the case is that he suspect is male without any kind of accent.
TEENAGERS ASSAULT MAN: A man reported he was assaulted by two teenagers on Oct. 9 at Renton Transit Center.
According to the police report, the man was waiting at the transit center when two boys, ages 16 or 18 years old, approached him. He described one wearing a black hoodie and the other wearing a green backpack. The boy in the hoodie said, “Get this dude,” and the boy in the green backpack began punching the man on face. He then reached into his pocket and took out a dollar bill and some change.
The man said he tried to get away but he wound up curled up on the floor. The boy with the green backpack then started kicking him in his ribs. The boy in the black hoodie was reportedly filming the entire encounter.
The man escaped the scene and fled to the nearest Safeway, where he asked a security guard to call the police. He told the police he did not know the suspects.
There is no further suspect information at this time.
STOLEN BIKE: On Oct. 8, a woman reported her bike was stolen from her garage parking lot.
According to the police report, the garage was locked and required either a key or a remote to access it. The bike was locked by a heavy gauge chain and a padlock. The woman said someone gained access to her garage and cut the chain with bolt cutters. She also said someone else’s car in the area was rummaged through the same night the bike was stolen.
There is no further information on this case.
