72-year-old Renton woman injured when car rolls down embankment on SR 169

A 72-year-old Renton woman was injured when she was ejected from her car after it left State Route 169 and rolled down an embankment Wednesday afternoon, according to the Renton Police Department.

The accident happened at about 3 p.m. in the 2500 block of SR 169, also known as the Maple Valley Highway.

The woman’s southbound car had crossed the south curb and sidewalk, traveled down an embankment and had rolled repeatedly before coming to rest against a tree, according to Detective Robert Onishi.

The driver, who was alone in the car, was ejected. It appears she had been wearing a seatbelt, but the belt showed signs of repair and failed to restrain her, according to Onishi.

She was treated at the scene, and then transported by fire personnel to a hospital. Her condition wasn’t immediately known.

The Renton Police Department Traffic Division is investigating the accident. A cause wasn’t immediately determined, but it does not appear that excessive speed was a factor, according to Onishi.
