A Fun Felt Forest fills a Downtown cafe

One Renton artist has been so busy promoting other artists, she hasn’t taken the time to have a show of her own, until a friend gave her a deadline.

“It’s so easy to help others do shows, but doing it for myself is such a different experience,” said Mary Clymer, owner of happy delusions, a store that hosts local crafters.

Mike Moskowitz, owner of Liberty Cafe, decided to give her a deadline, two weeks to come up with about 18 pieces.

Clymer decided on the theme, the Fun Felt Forest, almost 3D framed artwork made with sewn felt.

It’s bright with color and uniqueness. The pictures’ flowers, birds and a hedgehog are as simple as cartoons

Using felt in this way isn’t common, Clymer said. “But it’s fun, it’s very playful, and it’s forgiving.”

The first day of the show she sold several pieces, including a stuffed owl that sits looking down on the cafe.

The exhibit will be up through the month at the cafe on 926 S. 3rd St., Renton.
