10,000 runners expected for Seahawks 12K in Renton Sunday

The 12K route starts at The Landing and travels north along the southeast shore of Lake Washington Boulevard and offers participants a unique opportunity to run around the Seahawks training facility, Virginia Mason Athletic Center. More than 10,000 participants – a sold-out crowd for the second year – have signed up for the Seahawks 12K in Renton this Sunday (April 19).

Now in its sixth year, the Seahawks 12K provides three courses for fans of all ages and skill level. Here are details about the impact on local roads.

Participants are encouraged to run in their favorite Seahawks gear or game-day attire for a chance to win prizes for “Best Uniform.”  Fans will be able to purchase any last minute Seahawks gear at The Pro Shop adjacent to Regal Cinemas at The Landing.

The 12K route starts at The Landing and travels north along the southeast shore of Lake Washington Boulevard and offers participants a unique opportunity to run around the Seahawks training facility, Virginia Mason Athletic Center. Runners return to Lake Washington Boulevard and travel south and the finish at The Landing.

The GLOW 5K Run/Walk route is flat fast 3.1-mile route that winds through The Landing then heads south into surrounding neighborhoods. This is a USATF-certified course.

The Play 60 Kids Run route is a half-mile run that is completely contained within The Landing.  The route also splits at about a 1/8th of a mile for the younger kids who may not be able to make the full half-mile distance. Registered Kids Run participants will receive a kids t-shirt and a ribbon. Open to all kids 10 and under.

Here’s the schedule:

• 6:30 a.m., day-of-race packet pick-up

• 7 a.m., the Pro Shop opens at The Landing

• 9 a.m., Seahawks 12K Run

• 9:20 a.m., GLOW 5K Run/Walk

• 10:45 a.m., Seahawks Play 60 Kids Run (open to all kids 10 and under)

• 11 a.m., post event awards ceremony

The Landing is at 715 N. Landing Way, Renton.

Proceeds from the event will benefit A Better Seattle (ABS), an initiative working to reduce and prevent youth gang violence in the greater Seattle area. ABS funds and supports the deployment of YMCA of Seattle’s Alive & Free professional trained street outreach workers who serve youth impacted by gangs, violence and the juvenile justice system in South King County.  For more information visit ABetterSeattle.com.
