Home for the holidays at Renton senior-living community

Everyone likes to think of their home as a special place, especially around the holidays and the residents at GenCare’s The Lodge at Eagle Ridge are no exception—they know it’s a special place!

The Lodge at Eagle Ridge is a unique senior-living community set in a beautifully landscaped four-and-half-acre campus with views of Lake Washington and downtown Renton. This smaller, senior-living community occupies a lovely building with an old-fashioned alpine lodge feel that creates a sense of cozy hominess every day of the year—but it’s at Christmas that it comes into its own.

Family and friends gather together

When the holidays come around, many thoughts turn to memories of childhood homes and the pleasures of a family Christmas, and at The Lodge at Eagle Ridge, the residents and staff know that Christmas is about being surrounded by family—both related and chosen as friends!

Home is a great place to be — it’s where the heart is — especially at Christmas!

The staff here know that they are part of what makes this community a home—and they love what they do!

Christmas is where you are and who you are with

Executive Director, Justin Wammock, says that he chose his profession because “there is no other profession where you get to have so many bonus grandmas and grandpas who treat you as their very own! We strive to make a difference for the residents, but they make a difference in our lives too!” For Justin, home is not a place, but a feeling, “a feeling you get when you are surrounded by the ones you love… it’s a comforting, safe place with people you truly care about, whether that be your own house, or your work environment.”

Kathy Hunt, Wellness Director echoes Justin’s sentiments, saying that “these seniors are like my parents. I feel close to them. For me, home is more than one place. It’s where the heart is, and I have a big heart, so home is at work, at my house, my sons’ homes, my daughter’s, my sisters’ and friends’ homes.” The holidays are a special time for Kathy meaning get-togethers and fond memories of a favorite great uncle who played the role of “the best Santa ever!”

Behind the scenes, like a Christmas elf, Dave Holsather, Maintenance Director, keeps everything up and running, but like Kathy and Justin, he loves working with seniors because “they remind me of the seniors I knew when I was growing up.” For Dave, home is where the people he cares about are, and he cares about the residents. Job satisfaction comes from knowing that “when I go home at night, the building is operating correctly” and from “assuring residents that we will take care of them and always have their backs.”
