The large police presence at The Landing Target was no crime response, but in fact officers and school students shopping for nail polish, silverware, socks, toys and more for Renton families. On Saturday, Dec. 14, 15 students were paired with Renton Police Department officers who volunteered their mornings to each kid’s family wish list at the 2019 Shop with a Cop.
The students, selected by Communities in Schools of Renton-Tukwila to participate, had a list of items for family members this Christmas. After checkout, they wrapped all the gifts so parents could not sneak a peak during pickup. Families also received gift cards, a free turkey from Fred Meyer, and breakfast courtesy of several sponsors, including McDonald’s. The kids also received gifts for themselves, pre-purchased by the police department, including bikes.
This year 45 folks volunteered, including police and Target staff, to make Christmas wishes come true. Other sponsors included Safeway, Kiwanis Club, Walmart, Torero’s, Renton Coil Spring, QFC, Applebee’s, Starbucks and the Renton Police Athletic League.
