Renton Civic’s Footlight Frenzy to be viewed by playwright

The author of the Renton Civic Theatre’s new production plans to attend the show and talk to audience members.

Alan Shearman authored “Footlight Frenzy,” which opens at the theater Feb. 19. He’ll be at the theater Feb. 26.

The play tells the story of an inexperienced PTA group that valiantly mounts an ambitious effort to save their bankrupt “School for Unusual Children.”

Organizing a benefit play, the group’s questionable talent turns the production into shambles.

The scenes shift between the real tribulations of the performers and the play they are “performing.” It’s hard to tell which is sillier.

The show runs Feb. 19-March 6 at the Renton Civic Theatre, 507 S. Third St., Renton.

Tickets cost $17-$22. Shows start at 7:30 Thursdays; 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 2 p.m. Sundays.
