International Festival coming to Renton Highlands, schedule

The Renton International Festival kicks off Friday, Aug. 13, with a welcome by Mayor Denis Law followed by a traditional Lion Dance performance.

The three-day festival is free and is designed to bring together international communities to provide a diverse experience for families and individuals to shop, eat and mingle.

The event is hosted by One Media Venture, co-sponsored by Seattle Chinese Times, Viet Wah Group, Renton Chamber of Commerce and City of Renton as the marketing partners.

The festival is at the Greater Hilands Shopping Center, Viet Wah Plaza, 2820 Sunset Blvd. N.E., Renton.

The programs include food booths, merchandise booths, Community Health Plan of Washington Kid’s Corner, an import car show, live bands, classical, hip-hop, multi-cultural performances, remote-car demonstrations booth and the Next King of Pop Talent Search Contest

The Northwest Motiv International Automotive Showcase on Saturday features more than 50 modified show cars from the Northwest that will compete for the prizes and trophies.

The winner of the King of Pop talent search will receive two original tracks (beats) with free studio time, free performance bookings for three months and a professional press kit to send to record labels.The contest is hosted by Battalion Entertainment.

Live entertainment at the Tulalip Resort Casino Performance Stage includes Furniture Girls, TET in Seattle, Lion’s Ambition, Quarter Past 8, Farmaaish Alessandra, Huayin Dance Group, Melody Xie Institution, Northwest Wushu, Chinese yo-yo, PAYO (Philippino American Youth Organization), Bill Derry Band, Humungus Fungus, Moneta, The Advisers, African All Stars, Jimmy Free’s Friends, The Holy Crows, the Symphony Northwest Sinfonietta, Foxley, Clairbel Novelo, Alden Witt, and Okinawa Kenjin Club Taiko.

Friday, Aug. 13

Festival open 3 p.m.-8 p.m.

• 4 p.m.: Ribbon-cutting cermony with Mayor Denis Law. Other guests include local and regional government and business leaders, Director General Daniel Liao of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle, Michael Chan of One Media Venture, Duc Tran of Viet Wah Group and Kenneth Kettler, CEO of Tulalip Resort Casino. The Lion Dance performance is by the by Master David Leong Shaolin Kung Fu School

Saturday, Aug. 14

Festival open 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

• All day, with award presentation at 5 p.m.: Northwest Motiv International Automotive Showcase

• 1 p.m.-2 p.m.: The Next King of Pop, Michael Jackson Talent Search
