The opinion editorial page in the April 1 Renton Reporter states that “I’ve now made the point that the library won’t work in its current location” but gives little detail. There is no discussion as to why the current desirable features such as aesthetics, safe access and ample parking adjacent to the building should be abandoned, so I don’t think the point was made.
A reader is left with the impression that a new building is needed primarily as a pawn in the social engineering experiment to revitalize downtown Renton and that use as a library is a secondary consideration. Safety and traffic congestion problems can be expected in the downtown location. Library patrons need an easy way to use the library in an uncongested safe area with adequate parking preferably next to the building. So is the editorial serious or was it an April Fool’s joke?
