Electeds didn’t protect library

Array

Dear Mayor Law and City Council members,

In the utility bill the City of Renton included information about tax issues related to KCLS taking over our library and in flyers in the library. The city acknowledged this was an important part of each person’s decision.

The city provided inaccurate misleading information about taxes. A retraction and correction was issued in the Renton Reporter and on the city web site, after the ballots had already gone out and after many residents had mailed in their ballots. Many decisions having been based on erroneous information received.

Everyone receives and opens their utility bill, not everyone reads the Renton Reporter or goes to the city web site.

It would follow, as information provided was misleading about the future tax implications, this would make the final vote tally to be an inaccurate representation of the voice of Renton residents. Especially as the vote is so incredibly close.

This is not sour grapes, it is about doing the right thing, being fair and honest.

Each of you represents the city, and through you, our voice is expressed.

In this situation you have let us down.

The City Council has done many great things for Renton residents. We ask that the city add to this list by addressing the lack of true representation of the Renton residents by the KCLS vote. This having been the result of misleading information as outlined above.

I am very disappointed with the way you as our representatives have treated us and how little concern you seem to have about this issue.

I appreciate the efforts of Marcie Palmer on behalf of Renton Library and residents.
