Don Bressler acted in RTC’s best interest

The firing of Don Bressler as president of Renton Technical College raises serious questions about the credibility of the Board of Trustees and the political impartiality of some of its members.

Students, instructors and taxpayers deserve a better explanation for the sudden decision to oust one of the state’s top college administrators. Renton’s civic leaders and the Renton Reporter should continue to press for answers.

During my years as a newspaper publisher in South King County, I had the opportunity follow Don’s work closely. He always acted with the highest degree of integrity and in the best interests of RTC.

As a member of the college’s Foundation Board of Directors, I had the privilege of working with Don to mobilize financial and community support for the college. His vision, leadership and community contacts were outstanding.

Don’s termination – and the manner in which the trustees acted – deserves the condemnation it is getting.
