This week 6,877 signatures of Renton residents were turned in to the city clerk’s office in an attempt to halt the move of the downtown Renton Library over the Cedar River to Third Street.

Stuart Avery submitted the 400 initiative petition sheets to City Clerk Bonnie Walton Monday, culminating months of collecting signatures from all around town.

Ballots in the all-mail special election must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, election day; mid-week, county election officials reported ballots were running below expected numbers countywide.

A maintenance and operations replacement levy, a replacement technology levy and a bond measure are on the ballot in the Renton School District.

When Dustin Dacuan attended Renton High School, he participated in the University of Washington’s Dream Project, which helped him get into the college.

His parents didn’t know how to navigate the higher education system. Dacuan’s father has a college degree but is an immigrant from the Philippines. His mother is from Eastern Washington but did not pursue college.
