    Renton couldn’t snap out of a late-season funk and fell to Port Angeles 23-6 in a sub-district playoff game Tuesday night at Renton Memorial Stadium.

    The Indians (4-6 overall, 3-3 Seamount) finished the year winless in their final three games after starting 4-3.

    The Hazen swim and dive team took home the Seamount title this weekend.

    The Highlanders scored 405 points at the league meet to top second-place Kennedy Catholic with 301. Lindbergh followed in third with 232, and Renton in fourth with 138.

    Hazen used lockdown defense to top Renton 21-7 in the Highlanders’ homecoming game Friday night.

    The Highlanders (6-2 overall, 4-2 Seamount) finish the regular season tied with Lindbergh for second place in the Seamount. Renton (4-5, 3-3) finishes in fourth.

    After tying for first at the KingCo 3A cross-country meet Oct. 20, the Liberty girls are already well on track to continue last season’s success.

    The Patriots turned heads at the 3A state meet last year with a ninth-place finish, but it wasn’t just about the placing. It was how they got there.

    Mistakes cost the Lindbergh football team Friday night as the Eagles fell to Kennedy Catholic 41-28.

    Lindbergh (3-3 overall, 2-2 Seamount) tossed four interceptions and fell behind early. Kennedy led 14-0 into the second quarter, when the Lancers scored a touchdown on a fake field goal to go up 21-0.

    The Hazen football team won its third straight game Thursday night, topping Foster 21-13.

    The Highlanders (5-2 overall, 3-2 Seamount) take on rival Renton Oct. 28 in the regular-season finale. Hazen is in fourth place in the Seamount, second among 3A teams.

    The Hazen girls soccer team left the field disappointed after allowing two late goals to tie Kennedy Catholic 2-2 Thursday night. That in itself says something about the direction of the Highlanders this year.

    “We just kind of fell apart the last 10 minutes,” said Hazen coach Ken Matthews. “The girls were terribly disappointed.”

    It’s all about star power for the Liberty girls soccer team. The Patriots have two all-state players in Kimi Fry and Cassidy Nangle.

    “We have a group of really hard-working girls and they have one goal in mind, and that’s to win a state championship,” said Liberty coach Jamie Giger. “They come out every day looking to get better on the field.”
