Winter storm watch issued for Western Washington; maybe 6 inches of snow

A winter storm watch has been issued for Western Washington for Wednesday and Thursday, with up to 6 inches of snow possible in the lowlands, including Renton, through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Arctic air is flowing into Western Washington from British Columbia and a low-pressure system is developing off the Washington coast, according to the weather service.

Slushy snow could build up early Wednesday morning, with the heaviest snowfall expected to begin late Wednesday morning and into the afternoon. Snow could continue overnight, with showers in Renton on Thursday.

Thursday and Friday the high temperatures will be in the mid-30s, with lows in the low 20s in Renton.
Snow showers have been reported throughout Renton today (Tuesday). The temperature at about 3 p.m. was 36 degrees at Renton Municipal Airport, with fog and light freezing rain.

Multiple accidents and spinouts closed both directions of Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass for a time today, with another full closure at about 3:30 p.m. The Cascades could get as much as 16 inches of new snow.
