Feature: Renton’s Christina Hay

Exuding a quiet confidence, Renton High senior Christina Hay is leading the Indians on the court this season.

“She’s a quiet leader,” said Renton coach Tim White. “She plays hard, she plays exceptionally hard and I really like that about her.”

The 5-foot-7 guard is second on the team in scoring, at 10.1 points per game. She’s made 62 percent of her three-point attempts this season and 56 percent of her field goals. Hay leads the Indians in rebounding, at 5.1 per game. She’s tied for the team lead in steals, at 1.2 per game.

Hay has been on varsity all four years at Renton, and while some might look at her style of play and call her a scorer, she doesn’t think that’s accurate.

“I’m not necessarily worried about scoring,” Hay said. “Just as long as we’re playing together and winning, I don’t care.”

Hay said her approach to on-court attitude is to simply stay calm and not get too caught up in the action.

Hay plans to attend Highline Community College for two years, then transfer to a university. While at Highline, she hopes to play basketball.

“It’s nice because it’s close to home,” Hay said. “The coaches heard about me and they’ve been to one of my games.”

White said Hay’s versatility and attitude could make her an effective player at the next level. “She’s a scorer, but she plays solid defense too,” he said. “I see her maturity and leadership when she’s out on the floor.”

Renton finished the season at 8-12.
