Democrats to select presidential nominee

Democrats in Renton and throughout the state Sunday will select their nominee for president from a slate of one, Barack Obama.
The caucuses will start at 1 p.m. at locations throughout the state. Doors open at 12:30 p.m.
Democratic voters will select their nominee for president, as well as delegates and alternates to the legislative district caucuses and county convention. This is the first step to becoming a delegate for the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte in September.
The Washington State Democrats’ website (www.wa-democrats.org/caucuses) is the main resource for information on the caucuses, including a “Caucus Finder” that will tell Democratic voters where their local caucuses will be held.
It also includes a flow chart showing how the Precinct Caucuses eventually lead to 130 total delegates and alternates representing the Washington State Democrats at the national convention.
Local Democratic party organizations within the state’s 49 legislative districts have been preparing for several months for this event, which happens once every four years, said Marvin Rosete, vice chairman of the 11th District Democrats.
Renton’s incorporated and unincorporated areas fall mostly in the 11th, the 37th, the 41st and the 5th legislative districts.
