Bill Ptacek, the director of the King County Library System, is sending signals that he understands the deep sense of loss some Renton residents are feeling about their much-beloved library.

In an interview with Celeste Gracey, he’s outling his agency’s plans to move forward as quickly as possible with the transition to KCLS now that the results of the Feb. 9 special election are certified.

He wants to preserve the culture that has made the Renton Library so special. That’s good.

The KCLS board is going to meet City Council members. That’s good.

The new library card may even evoke Renton. That’s good.

Mainly, it sounds like he knows he’s moving into Renton with a lot of suspicious eyes cast his way.
