The Veterans of Foreign Wars this week honored Bill Russell with their Lifetime Achievement Award during a ceremony at Valley Medical Center’s Healing Garden.
Russell served in the Air Corps, 1st Radio Squadron Mobile (means he went behind enemy lines) in the Korean War. He also worked as a volunteer at Tahoma National Cemetery for 20 years, coordinating military honors for deceased veterans, putting in 8,000 hours of time at the cemetery.
Russell is currently undergoing treatment for cancer at the hospital.
