Crowds lining overpasses from Renton to SeaTac sent off the Seattle Seahawks Friday afternoon to do battle in an NFL playoff game Sunday in Washington, D.C., with the Redskins.
“This is our show of support,” said Melissa Payne, who stood on the Benson Road bridge over Interstate 405 near Renton City Hall at about 2:30 p.m. with her mother Karen and Pico, their dog who was kept warm with a small coat.
Earlier in the day Karen had her fingernails painted in Seahawks colors, green and blue.
They were joined by more than a dozen fans on the overpass waving flags and cheering, drawing honks of support from motorists on the freeway and those driving close by on the overpass.
Cheering, too, were Jason and Sheena Thomas and their 4-month-old son Jack. Are they Seahawks fans? “Big time,” said Jason.
The 12th Man flags and banner were handed out by City of Renton crews.
The team, traveling in four buses, was headed for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for the trip to Washington, D.C.
