Hospital commission to consider future of strategic alliance lawsuit

Published 11:03 am Friday, January 4, 2013

The Public Hospital District No. 1 commission will consider a resolution Monday about exploring further litigation regarding the strategic alliance with UW Medicine.

A King County Superior Court judge on Dec. 28 dismissed a lawsuit brought by the commission against the University of Washington, which claimed the commission in 2011 had overstepped its statutory authority to enter into such an alliance.

An executive session in which litigation could be discussed is not included on the agenda released Friday; however, Dr. Paul Joos, the commission president, can call for an executive session at the meeting.

The commission also will consider a resolution to hire a lobbyist for hospital district interests. The judge in dismissing the lawsuit indicated the issues raised in the lawsuit might be best considered by the state Legislature.

Commissioners also will nominate board officers.

The meeting is at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7,  in the board room at Valley Medical Center, 400 S. 43rd St., Renton.
