Rep. Maxwell easily winning third term; West Hill annexation trailing

State Rep. Marcie Maxwell of Renton was easily winning a third term to the state Legislature representing the 41st District in the general election.

In an election that featured  mostly national and statewide races, one local measure on ballot was the annexation of West Hill to Renton. The measure was trailing, with 55 percent no vote and 45 percent yes vote.  West Hill residents were supporting their fire department, approving an increase in their property taxes, 72 percent to 28 percent, to pay for fire services.

In the legislature, initial results posted Tuesday night showed Maxwell, a Democrat, with 58 percent of the vote to 42 percent for Tim Eaves, an Issaquah Republican, for House Position 1. Judy Clibborn ran unopposed for her House Position 2 seat . Incumbent Steve Litzow held a comfortable lead in the 41st District Senate race, with 54 percent to 46 percent for Maureen Judge.

In the open state Senate race in the 11th District, Bob  Hasegawa of Seattle defeated Kristin Thompson of Renton,  with 69 percent of the vote. Steve Bergquist defeated Sarah Sanoy-Wright, 71 percent to 29 percent, for the open 11th District’s House Position 2 seat.  Incumbent  Zack Hudgins of Tukwila defeated Jim Flynn of Renton for 11th District’s House Position 1.

The county will continue to post election results daily for the next two weeks.
