Pavement repairs to slow traffic overnight on I-405 through Renton

Overnight drivers on Interstate 405 should expect longer construction delays than normal for the next several nights because of work to repair joints in the freeway pavement at Talbot Road.
The repair was expected to take about three weeks.
However, to finish the work sooner, the Washington state Department of Transportation and contractors are adding more crews and closing lanes one hour earlier than normal. The earlier closures could lengthen travel time through the work area in downtown Renton.
Starting tonight (Thursday), crews will close two lanes of southbound I-405 between Oakesdale Avenue Southwest and the Maple Valley Highway at 9 p.m. and two lanes of northbound I-405 at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.
Crews will continue these lane closures each weeknight until the work is complete.
“It’s going to be noisy,” said Steve Peer, a transportation department spokesman, said of the work. “We are using a get-in and get-out philosophy to get it done quicker.”
