The Seattle Seahawks acquired quarterback Charlie Whitehurst from the San Diego Chargers for draft picks.
The teams exchanged second-round picks, which dropped Seattle from 40th overall to 60th. Seattle also gave up its third-round pick.
The Seahawks then signed Whitehurst to a two-year, $8 million contract, which is worth up to $10 million with incentives.
Whitehurst, a Clemson graduate, is 27 and has not thrown a regular season pass in four seasons with the Chargers. He is expected to backup starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.
