Hazen runs into rough competition at BC Christmas Classic | Girls basketball

The Hazen girls basketball team lost two non-league games to some of the state’s best teams at the Bellevue College Christmas Classic.

The Higlanders (3-6 overall, 2-3 Seamount) fell to White River 65-50 Tuesday and Holy Names 71-27 Wednesday.

Against White River (7-1), Hazen allowed the Hornets to pile up 32 first-quarter points before responding to pull back into the game. The Highlanders got as close as eight points (49-41) in the third quarter but still fell.

Gabrielle Redwine led the team with 23 points. Michelle Wnek scored 13.

Against Holy Names (8-2) Hazen couldn’t find enough offense to match the Cougars. Wnek led Hazen with eight points.
