Hazen graduate Demico Rogers fell in the first round on last night’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights.

The Ultimate Figher (TUF) is a reality TV series that features mixed martial artists working towards a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Each episode features two fighters battling to move on in the tournament-style show until the live finale.

Rogers went up against Brendan Schaub in the elimination bout last night.

In the first round, Rogers landed a low kick before trying a takedown against Schaub. The two get back up and exchanged punches. Rogers tries another takedown, this time successful. Rogers hit Schaub with an elbow before getting reversed. Rogers rolled over and went flat. That allowed Schaub to get a guillotine and move into an anaconda choke that eventually submitted Rogers.

Rogers’ coach on the show, Quinton Jackson, didn’t do Rogers any favors on fight day. Jackson and the coaching staff was late to the fight then didn’t come into the cage to console Rogers afterward.

Following the loss, Rogers is eliminated from competition, though fighters usually stay and continue to train. In past seasons when a fighter has been forced to leave the show for various reasons, previously-eliminated fighters have been brought back into active competition.
