Lindbergh junior Janayla Scott has been one of the state leaders all season long. The challenge now is maintain consistency into the postseason.

“She’s talented and she’s fast,” said Lindbergh girls track coach Jeff Stuart. “You’ve got to have speed. And she’s very coachable. She’s always listening and trying to improve.”

Scott won the 100, long jump and triple jump at the All-City meet, and has taken first in all three events in every meet she has entered this season.

“It means a lot to me to have those wins,” Scott said. “Especially in the triple jump. Freshman year it was pretty hard to understand. This year I get it and it’s fun to understand.”

And she’s not just dominating the Seamount. Scott is ninth in the 100, third in the long jump and first in the triple jump among Washington 2A performances.

She placed third at state in the triple jump last year, with a jump of 35 feet, 9.25 inches. She’s already topped that distance several times this year, including a personal-best jump of 38 feet, 3.5 inches at the Arnie Young Invite April 7.

“I knew right from the start when we had our first meet that she was going to be better,” Stuart said. “She was faster and her technique was better.”

Scott said her goals are to have the Eagles’ 4 X 100 relay beat the school record of 49.3 seconds (the relay ran 49.42 last year), plus get to 40 feet in the triple jump and 19 feet in the long jump.

“I hope that if she jumps what she’s capable of, she wins state,” Stuart said.
