Hazen’s tough pitching too much for Peninsula, Highlanders take top seed to districts | Baseball

Under rainy conditions, the Hazen baseball team beat Peninsula 6-3 Thursday in a sub-district game at Auburn Mountainview. The Highlanders (14-5) take the top seed into the West Central District Tournament and will play May 9 at 7 p.m. at Auburn Mountainview.

Hazen got on the board when Jimmy Schmidt scored on a Kyle Nelson single in the third inning. The Highlanders scored again in the fourth when Jake Kolterman scored on a single by Kyle Arinobu.

Peninsula (16-3) recaptured the lead with three runs in the fourth inning. Hazen bounced right back, scoring four runs in the sixth.

Kolterman pitched five innings and struck out six. Zac Kolterman came on in relief and struck out five of the seven batters he faced.
