Part of SR900 closed in both directions this weekend

MLK Jr. Way South will be closed between South 129th Street and South Boeing Access Road beginning 10 p.m. tonight.

Drivers be warned: a large chunk of state Route 900 will be closed in both directions this weekend for repaving work.

WSDOT has announced that Martin Luther King Jr. Way South (state Route 900) in Tukwila is going under the knife while crews rebuild a settling section of the highway this weekend.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will close both directions of MLK Jr. Way South from 10 p.m. today, Friday, June 24, until 5 a.m. Monday, June 27, to remove and replace more than 1,500 feet of settling roadway near the Interstate 5 interchange.

During construction, crews will remove the old concrete, put in a new gravel base to rebuild the road and then pave it with almost 4,000 tons of new asphalt.

What drivers can expect

MLK Jr. Way South will be closed between South 129th Street and South Boeing Access Road. Crews will also close three ramps along the highway:

• The southbound I-5 off-ramp;

• The 57th Avenue South on-ramp to westbound MLK Jr. Way South; and

• The 60th Avenue South on-ramp to westbound MLK Jr. Way South.

Drivers will follow posted eastbound and westbound detour routes.
