Hazen High School’s Avery Hanneman, soccer, was selected as the Renton Reporter’s Female Athlete of the Week for Oct. 12.
Q: What is your favorite subject in school?
A: Psychology — I enjoy learning about the mind and why we do the things we do.
Q: What other activities do you participate in?
A: I am a soccer coach for young kids. I really enjoy working with them on and off the field. In the future, I hope to become a teacher and coach.
Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?
A: My family has always been extremely supportive of me. They always do everything they can to make sure that I am able to succeed in school and on the field. They are always there for me.
Q: Do you have a pre- or post-game tradition? What is it?
A: Part of my pre-game ritual is to touch each goal post, jump up and touch the cross bar. I do this every game without fail!
Q: Song you currently can’t get enough of?
A: “Break Your Heart” by Taio Cruz. The song always makes me laugh and is fun to sing along with.
From the Sideline
“Avery has had an incredible season this year. She has made fantastic saves for us all year. She leads the North Puget Sound League in saves, saves percentage and is second in goal against average. We expect more big things from here as we continue our quest for the playoffs.”
