With an 8-1 win over Evergreen on Tuesday, the Hazen tennis team secured a 12-1 record and came closer to a second consecutive Seamount League regular season title.
The Hazen softball team finished the regular season on April 25 with a 9-1 loss at Mount Rainier.
The 2007 3A state champion Hazen soccer team may not get a chance to defend the title after the team forfeited seven games for fielding an ineligible player.
Spring sports are winding down, or up depending on how you look at it, and track is no exception. Seamount teams finish the regular season on May 2, then prepare for the postseason.
When Michael Johnson took over the Renton High baseball team two weeks before the 2007 season, the program had 12 players and a negative figure in the budget. Just one year later, the Indians’ turnaround is already in full swing.

After a 5-0 loss to Evergreen on Tuesday, it was easy for Renton High soccer coach Duane Nakamura to question the consistency of his rebuilding team.
Hazen baseball coach Chris Chiechi knew he had a legitimate ace and a couple of strong role players on the pitching staff. What he didn’t know is that in a late-season game, he would get great innings from a sophomore and a senior that hadn’t pitched in 2008.
As high school and club soccer start to cross paths more, players who choose to play for both teams are often caught in the middle of a fight for their skills and time on the field.
