The Lindbergh boys cross-country team continued to run its way into the nation’s elite with an eighth place finish at the Richland Invitational Saturday.
Five of the teams that finished ahead of Lindbergh are ranked among the top 50 in the United States.
Luke Garcia led the way, finishing in just over 16 minutes, good for 26th place. Mohamud Abdi came in less than half a second later at 27th. Mark Garcia took 33rd at 16:06.62.
Travis Downen placed 52nd in 16:24.78, Nathan Haley 72nd in 16:40.87, Omelyan Strembitskyy 93rd in 16:56.55 and Ben Platt in 105th in 17:03.50.
The Lindbergh boys and girls teams compete in the Seamount League Oct. 15 at Evergreen High School. The varsity girls race is at 11 a.m., the varsity boys start at 11:30.
Liberty
The Liberty girls cross-country team won the Fort Worden Invitational Saturday in Port Townsend. The boys team took second.
Amy Broska led the Patriots with a fourth-place finish. Liberty’s Allie Wood (fifth), Sarah Bliesner (sixth), Rachel Shaw (ninth) and Megan Chucka (10th) all finished in the top 10 and within 39 seconds of each other.
Sophomore Aaron Bowe led the boys in fifth place. Hiron Redman placed 11th. Nick Knoblich took 17th.
Liberty takes on Mercer Island and Mount Si Wednesday at Mount Si High School in its final regular season meet of the year.
