Liberty softball scores 12 in first, holds on for win

Mercer Island battled back slowly to knot the score at 16-16 headed into the final inning.

The Liberty Patriots softball team came out swinging Monday, racking up 12 runs in the first inning against Mercer Island and than needing to rally in the seventh for a 17-16 win.

Mercer Island battled back slowly, scoring 6 runs in the second, 2 in the fourth, 3 in the fifth and then 5 in the 6 to complete the comeback and knot the score at 16-16 headed into the final inning.

In the final frame, Liberty was able to push a run across for the victory.

Taylor Thatcher led the way for the Patriots, going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. Hannah McMullin knocked in 2 runs of her own. Madi Jones picked up the win.

Liberty is now 2-6 overall and 2-5 in KingCo. They are scheduled to play at Juanita on Wednesday.
