Liberty boys compete in San Diego tournament

The Liberty boys basketball team went 1-2 at the Surf ‘N Slam Hoop Classic in San Diego Dec. 26-31.

The Patriots (3-6 overall, 0-3 KingCo) opened with a 67-49 loss to Granite Bay (Calif.). Chandler Jenkins and Eric Peterson each scored 10 points in the game to lead Liberty.

In the next game, Liberty fell behind 24-7 after the first quarter and couldn’t get back into the game. The Patriots lost 62-49 to West Allis (Wis.). Jake Bainton led Liberty with 12 points. Jenkins added nine points.

Thanks to a huge, 27-point first quarter, the Patriots won their final game 83-66 over St. Helens (Ore.). Jenkins scored 20 points, Bainton scored 16 and Peterson scored 14 for Liberty.

The Patriots are back in action in Washington against Eastside Catholic (1-4 overall, 0-4 Metro) on Jan. 5. KingCo play starts again against Juanita (2-8, 1-2) on Jan. 13.
