High school football season begins Thursday

Lindbergh hosts a team from Canada and Renton and Hazen face off on Friday.

The school year officially got underway today, Wednesday, in our area and if there was any doubt fall is just around the corner, the high school football season kicks off this weekend.

This season, all three Renton-area high schools have switched leagues as the Seamount League was disbanded after the school year ended in June.

Both Renton and Lindbergh will play in the re-vamped 2A South Puget Sound League while Hazen has opted up to a 4A classification to play in the re-formed North Puget Sound League.

The football season began Thursday as the Lindbergh Eagles welcomed the team from Ecole Mission B.C. from Canada to Renton Memorial Stadium. The game was too late for this edition of the paper.

On Friday, in a intra-city and inter-league matchup, the Renton Indians will open their season against the Hazen Highlanders at Renton Memorial Stadium.

The Liberty Patriots, who play in the KingCo League, open their season at home on Friday against Cedarcrest.
