Hazen to host annual fundraising wrestling tournament Jan. 23

'Taking Down Pancreatic Cancer' tournament to feature eight local teams.

Hazen High School and PANCAN (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network) will host the Fourth annual “Taking Down Pancreatic Cancer” wrestling tournament on Jan. 23.

This year’s tournament will be conducted in an eight team dual format and will feature some of Washington’s top programs. Several of the programs attending were top 10 finishers at last year’s mat classic tournament.

The teams competing this year include:

• Hazen

• Bonney Lake

• Decatur

• Highline

• Liberty

• Oak Harbor

• Skyline

• Quincy

The tournament will be run in four rounds. Three preliminary rounds will be wrestled to determine which teams will move on to the championship round.  Only one team will take home the team title.

Along with the wrestling tournament, several fundraisers will also be held. There will be a silent auction, a bake sale, concessions, and a 50/50 raffle.  The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (Puget Sound Affiliate) will be present and will have an information booth setup.

Pancreatic cancer has quietly become the fourth-leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. and upon diagnosis, patients have an average life expectancy of 5-7 months.

Doors will open to the public at 8 a.m. with wrestling scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. There will be an opening ceremeony before the first match.

Entry will be by donation with all proceeds generated through the fundraising activities going to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
