Hazen soccer keeps playoff hopes alive with draw against Kentwood

Hazen currently sits in fifth place in the North Puget Sound League, with five teams advancing to the playoffs.

The Hazen Highlander soccer team kept their momentum going on Thursday, playing Kentwood to a 1-1 draw and picking up a point for the league table in the process.

Last time the Highlanders matched up against the Conquerors, Hazen ended up on the wrong side of a 3-0 score.

It looked like it might go that way again as Kentwood was up 1-0 in the second half, but Nia Johnson took an assist from Madison Kem to know the game at 1 and the Highlanders held on to earn the draw to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Hazen currently sits in fifth place in the North Puget Sound League, with five teams advancing to the playoffs. Three games ago, Hazen was in seventh place but has won two and earned a draw in three consecutive games against league opponents to earn seven of nine possible points.

Hazen is now 5-6-1 on the season and 4-5-1 in the league. The Highlanders host Mount Rainier at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Renton Memorial Stadium.
