Hazen gets max points in 2-1 win

The following is information provided by the Hazen girls soccer team:

Hazen soccer picked up three extremely important points Tuesday with a 2-1 win against Kentwood.

The win propelled the Lady Highlanders into the third seed in its half of the league — the North Puget Sound League 4A Cascade Division.

Hazen got goals from junior Taylor Marks and sophomore Simone Watson to establish a 2-0 halftime lead. Senior Madison Kem and Marks had the assists.

Hazen has four more games remaining this regular season that will decide its playoff status. Those four games are against Mount Rainier (2-6-2, 4-6-2), Kentridge (4-4-2, 5-5-2), Kentlake (3-5-2, 3-7-2) and Kennedy Catholic (8-0-2, 8-1-3).

“We don’t have the luxury of any take-it-easy matchups,” said Hazen coach Ken Matthews. “Seven of the leagues eight teams still can get into the playoffs and we play four of them — unfortunately we were 1-3 against them the first time around.”

The Highlanders win against the four remaining teams was a 4-0 win mid-September over Mount Rainier.

Hazen travels to Highline Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. matchup tonight, Thursday, Oct. 11 against Mount Rainier.
