Hazen boys track takes 8th at state, Andrey Levkiv earns state title in shot put

The Hazen boys track team placed eighth in the state. The Highlanders scored 27 points.

Senior thrower Andrey Levkiv led the way, earning a state title in the shot put. Levkiv shot a distance of 59 feet, 1.5 inches. Teammate Courtney Sanders placed third in the shot put, at 54 feet, 3.5 inches.

With Levkiv, Sanders and Renton High’s Armin Basic in second, Renton-area throwers took the top three spots in the event.

Senior Jeff Hinckley placed second in the pole vault, reaching a height of 14 feet, six inches.

Duncan Mackay placed 13th in the 100 meter preliminaries and ninth in the 200 meter preliminaries.

James Holland placed ninth in the 110-meter hurdles preliminary race.
