Girls basketball: Hazen and Liberty win, Renton falls to Kennedy

Hazen 45, Mount Rainier 34

Thanks to a huge fourth quarter, Hazen beat Mount Rainier 45-34 Friday.

Hazen (8-4 overall, 6-3 Seamount) moves into a tie for third place in the Seamount with Lindbergh, and both teams trail Mount Rainier by just half a game.

The Highlanders led by seven after the first quarter, but the Rams scored 17 to Hazen’s four in the second quarter. That left Hazen trailing by six points at half time.

The Highlanders then chipped into that lead slightly in the third and went on a 17-2 run in the fourth quarter to pull away with the win.

Hazen’s Airashay Rogers scored 21 points to lead all players. Gina Kirklin scored 11.

Kennedy 80, Renton 44

Renton hung with the state’s top 3A team for a quarter, but eventually fell to Kennedy 80-44 Friday.

The Indians (4-8, 4-5) trailed by just three points after the first quarter, but the undefeated Lancers went on a 49-14 run through the next two quarters.

Christina Hay led Renton with 13 points and Taylor Williams added 10.

Liberty 44, Mount Si 39

Liberty took an early lead and held on for a 44-39 win against Mount Si Friday.

The Patriots (12-3, 5-2 KingCo) rebounded from their only multiple-game losing streak this season two weeks ago to win their past two games.
