Voting is under way for key school measures | Our view

The countywide turnout for this February’s Special Election is estimated at about 38 percent. That’s not bad, but we would sure like to see many more voters sending back their ballots to show resounding support for Renton’s schools.

There are three measures, including two levies that replace existing ones. The all-important levy to pay for maintenance and and operations is before voters for the first time in four years. It’s critical that the district continues to receive these dollars to pay for everyday expenses.

And the bond measure will pay for a much-needed new middle school that will ease overcrowding in the existing three middle schools.

You should have received your mail ballots by now; if not get ahold of the elections office. And, to no surprise, we respectfully ask that you vote yes on the school measures.
