I would like to commend festival coordinator Sonja Mejlaender, the city of Renton, local service clubs and multiple corporate sponsors, for another successful Renton River Days Festival. I know that an event like this takes an incredible amount of planning and could not succeed without hundreds of volunteers.
I was humbled to see people of all ages and political ideology stop by and express their condolences and prayers for the people of Nice, France in our “sympathy book.” Clearly, there are sentiments and beliefs upon which, we can all agree. I will be sending the book filled with signatures and messages in at least eight different languages (including Mongolian, Turkish and Russian) on to the city of Nice to express our support for the people as they recover from their tragic attack.
It was fun seeing the families come to the booth staffed by people from the 11th Legislative District Republicans. The kids played Frisbee golf while their parents got a chance to talk to me as well as candidates such as Erin Aboudara and Pam Pollock. I know that I enjoyed seeing so many friendly faces and listening about their concerns and vision for our country.
Doug Basler,
Candidate for Congress, 9th District
