Steven Merrill Kramer born and raised in Renton, WA with lifelong ties to Herron Island in Lake Bay Washington passed away on January 6, 2019, after a period of illnesses. He was 64 years old.

Steve was born to Robert and Anita Kramer. Steve went to Rainier Beach High School, and began working at the family business Kramer’s Imperial Carpet Company at age 15. In 1970 Steve found a passion for hydroplanes, and in 1976 he began racing hydroplanes. Steve was the owner driver of the Carpet Bagger hydroplane and found a sport that he enjoyed. In 1979 Steve became a father to his only child Stephanie. In 2001 Steve pursued his dream of owning an Excavating business on Herron Island, after working at the carpet business for 40 years.

Steve was a hard worker and always willing to help anyone who needed it. Steve would stop what he was doing to help someone else. Steve met Jodi Comer in 1997 and they began their life together. In 2009 Steve decided to pursue hydro plane racing again, and purchased two boats that he restored and became the owner & driver of the Water Scamp and the Sun Up. Steve and Jodi became part of the Vintage Hydroplane Boat Racing Club and spent many weekends traveling to many races. Steve won several awards, met many great friends, and enjoyed being a Hydro plane driver from 2009-2016.

In 2016 Steve began to have some medical complications, and spent time in the hospital. Through his complications Steve had a smile on his face, and always wanted to get back doing what he loved.

Steve is survived by his loving companion, Jodi Comer, daughter Stephanie Olivares, son in law Xavier Olivares, four grandchildren, Brother Kevin Kramer, Sister in law Shelly Kramer, two nephews Scott and Todd Smith, and more Kramer & Anderson family. Steve will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 30th 2019 at 1:00pm at the Hydro Plane Museum, 5917 S. 196th St., Kent, WA 98032. (206) 764-9453.
