Robert “Bob” Charles Steger

Robert “Bob” Charles Steger, 85 of Renton died August 5, 2009 at his home.He was born September 13, 1923 in Covington, Kentucky the second son of Charles J. Steger and Anna (Sunde) Steger. A tall slim figure he loved to reminisce of his youth swimming and fishing with pals at “Little Lake” (Lake Boren) and “Union Town” (Newcastle) and his adventures in the Navy.He was in the CCC”s (Civilian Conservation Corps) during the summer of 1941 and after he graduated from Issaquah High School in 1942, he followed in his father’s footsteps and joined US Navy August 24, 1942 as a Seaman apprentice. He served an eight-year term and reenlisted twice before retired April 2, 1962 attaining the rank of CSC Rank E-7 Chief Commissaryman. He served during WWII and Korea in the Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa receiving numerous awards and medals. His last duty was aboard the USS Shelton DD-790 Destroyer. After his service in the Navy he served the community as a mail carrier the US Postal Service until retirement. A devoted husband Bob married the love of his life Helen Fedukowicz, his “little one”, May 25, 1956. They settled in a small home on acreage where they lived for more than 40 years. Bob loved the out of doors; he was an avid angler and gardener. Always a hard worker he split logging truck loads of fir trees into firewood during his retirement. He loved visits with family and friends and was never at a loss for a story to share over a beer or a cup of coffee.He was a member of the Elks Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.Robert leaves his beloved wife Helen Steger, son Charles Steger (Judy), stepson Patrick Fedukowicz, grandchildren Kelly Anderson (Richard), Donald Moore, Michael Moore, great granddaughter Aubrey Anderson, sister Marie Flaser and numerous nieces and nephews.His parents, brother Bill Steger and sister Sharon Jury predecease him.Services will be held Friday, August 14, 2009 at 12 P.M. at Greenwood Memorial Park Chapel with internment at 1 P.M. Visitation will be Thursday, August 13, 2009 from 3-6 pm. A reception will following at the family home.
